About The Tutoring Place

Dayton Macatee had been tutoring kids in his home for more than 15 years and had simply run out of time.  His knowledge, helpful nature and easygoing style made him a tutor in high demand, but there are only 24 hours in a day!  While his student waiting list grew, he developed a plan:  create a welcoming place with people of like minds who enjoy working with kids;  a comfortable place with room for students to work one-on-one with a tutor; a busy place with the buzz of knowledge being shared. . .The Tutoring Place was born in August of 1999, and we've been helping thousands of kids ever since.

Our goal at The Tutoring Place is to do all that we can to help students understand their schoolwork in an environment without distractions that is often not available in schools.  Because of the variety of their needs, we don't require time commitments from our students.  We work with all aged kids in all classroom subjects.  Students can come to us as often or as infrequently as they need.  Most tutoring sessions are by appointment and we suggest you schedule a session as early as possible.  We have 20 - 25 tutors on staff, so we can often get you on the schedule even at the last minute.

Our tutors come to us from all walks of life -- many are students themselves, some have teaching backgrounds.  Our ideal tutor has a thorough knowledge of the subject matter plus the ability to communicate effectively.  Of course, not every tutor works in each academic area, but many of our tutors can help students in several subjects.  They all love the experience of working with kids and developing trusting and respectful relationships.  Our tutors understand the importance of identifying each student's individual learning style.  With this approach, they can teach kids how to interpret the information conveyed at school and give them the support and encouragement they need to succeed.  We match our students with a tutor who is the most suitable fit -- personality and subject wise.

Classroom tutoring isn't the only thing we offer at The Tutoring Place.  We also work with kids on test preparation for P.S.A.T., S.A.T., A.C.T., and I.S.E.E. tests.   We plan group review sessions for semester exams.  We also offer study skills seminars throughout the year.  Many students make use of our classroom study hall for individual studying time after school.  Some kids come in together to work on school projects.  Our classroom presents a quiet environment for kids to work uninterrupted.

During the school year, The Tutoring Place is open Mondays through Thursdays after school, and on Sunday afternoons.  Weekdays we schedule appointments starting at 4:00 and are here throughout the evening -- as late as we have appointments scheduled.  On Sundays we schedule appointments between 2:00 and 5:00.  Our summertime hours are flexible to be able to accomodate students' activities.

There's a lot going on at The Tutoring Place -- learning, mentoring, developing, and even sharing our favorite joke:

How many tutors does it take to change a light bulb at The Tutoring Place?
None!  They've taught the students to do it themselves!
