1. Can
I come in anytime I want for tutoring?
All tutoring is by appointment only. Call as early as you can to guarantee
a tutoring time.
Top
2. How
much does it cost?
A one hour one-on-one tutoring session costs $55.

3.
When
do I pay?
We prefer payment at each appointment. We can arrange to bill you if that
works better for you. And yes, we do take credit cards.
Top
4. What
if I forget my appointment?
If you forget your appointment we have to charge you. We require 24 hours
cancellation notice so that we can fill that time slot.

5. What
if I'm sick? Do I still have to pay?
Of course not. We know that there are always exceptions to the
rules. If you're sick just call us as soon as possible, and then feel
better.

6. Can
I trade my appointment with someone else?
That doesn't always work. The tutors work in specific subjects and aren't always interchangeable. If you're switching with someone who is
coming in for the same subject, then that's probably OK, but it's always a
good idea to call and double check.

7. Can
I bring a friend to my appointment?
That's a great idea as long as you both plan to work together on the same
subject. The fees are different for more than one student though.

8. Can
I get an appointment today?
Sometimes we can get you in the same day that you call. Try to plan
ahead though. If you need help before a big test, there's a good chance a
lot of other kids do too, and some of them already have an appointment.

9. How
old are the kids you work with?
We have all ages coming in for help. We've worked with
kids in 1st grade, college students, and just about every age in
between.
Top
10. Where
do you get your tutors?
Our tutors come from all walks of life. We hire graduate students, college students,
some high school students and several people working in the "real
world." All of them enjoy working with kids and benefit from the
experience.

11. I've never had a tutor. How does it work?
First, call for an appointment. Second, show up on time. You'll meet with your tutor and discuss your
assignment or project and your tutor will help you with a plan of action.
Make sure to ask as many questions as you need to along the way. The
whole idea is for you to feel relaxed so you can understand your schoolwork.

12. How
many times should I come?
There's no easy answer for that one. The best guideline is for the
student and the parents to discuss it. We want you to feel comfortable
coming as often or as infrequently as you need to.
Top
13. Can
I have the same tutor every time?
If you plan to come in on a regular basis, we like to give you a specific time
each week to meet with the same tutor. If you come in sporadically, we'll try to set you up with the same
tutor. . . that's when calling ahead really pays off!
Top
14. Can
my tutor help me with all my classes?
The best way to ensure that is to arrange it when you make your first
appointment. Many of our tutors have talents in several subjects, so speak
up and tell us all the classes you're taking.
Top
15. Do
I have to bring my books?
You should always bring your books--even if you don't use them very often in
class. The best way for a tutor to help a student is to see all of the material that's relevant to the subject. That means bring books, class notes, tests and
anything else that can let the tutor see what's going on.

16. What
type of supplies are available at The Tutoring Place?
We have pens, pencils, paper, markers, scissors, kleenex, protractors,
rulers, dictionaries, calculators and computers for the students to use.
We even have a few textbooks.
Top
17. Can
I bring something to eat?
We have water if you're thirsty and fresh fruit here to keep you going.
If you want something else, feel free to bring it with you. Try to
keep the messiness to a minimum, please.
Top
18. Do
you have S.A.T. classes?
We treat S.A.T. prep like our other tutoring--on a one-on-one basis. The tutor and student go through
sample tests together
and then concentrate on the areas that you need help in most.
Top
19. My
notebook is a mess...can you help me get organized?
We offer sessions for study skills and organization as well as classroom
subjects. If you don't know where your notes are, it's awfully hard to
study for the tests!
Top
20. What
about reviews for tests?
We can schedule group review sessions before major tests. Some kids really
benefit from the group environment. We also have group reviews before
semester exams. You can always set up a one-on-one appointment if you are not
the group type.
Top
21. Do
you have a place where I can do work on my own?
Our classroom serves as a study hall when we're not working with a group.
Students can drop in anytime we're open and get work done in a quiet environment. You can work with a friend on a project
too-- just be sure to keep
the noise down!

22. What
do you do in the summer?
We never rest! We are definitely available for students who need help during summer. We also
offer some special reviews and prep workshops to get your brains in gear before
school starts.
